Heritage & identity
Rooted in Fox Hill, inspired by ancient Kemet
Our name, crest and colours tell one story: of resilience, transformation and pride in African heritage, lived out in a Bahamian community since 2011.

Our name
Why a scarab?
Akhepran comes from the Ancient Kemetic word Khepri, the scarab beetle.
In Kemet, the scarab was a symbol of divine strength and self-transformation. A small beetle that rolls its ball patiently forward each day became a picture of the sun rising again every morning.
We chose the name because it describes what we hope for every scholar: to be brave, wise and intelligent, to work with discipline, and to persevere through every challenge until they become their best selves.
Our teams carry the same name. We are the Mighty Scarabs.

Character
Guided by Ma’at
The behaviour, speech and thoughts of every Akhepran scholar are guided by the 42 Principles of Ma’at, the ancient Kemetic ideal of truth, balance, order and justice.
Scholars learn to take responsibility for their thoughts, words and actions. Alongside their subjects, they are taught the spiritual gifts of service, peace, charity, humility, gentleness, love, morality, respect, discipline, balance, patience, generosity, kindness and honesty.
We believe it takes a village to raise a child. Parents, teachers and the Fox Hill community share that work with us.
