Leadership rooted in community
Akhepran was founded by Dr. Jacinta Higgs in 2011. Today the school is led by its Principal and staff, with the support of a Board of Directors.
Our founder
Dr. Jacinta Higgs
Dr. Higgs started Akhepran in Fox Hill Village as a small private school with a big idea: that ancient wisdom and values belong alongside modern knowledge.
From the beginning it was a Bring Your Own Device school, where every student learned with a laptop. Since then the curriculum has grown to build 21st-century skills, combining African principles and the United Nations Global Goals with technology.
Dr. Higgs leads ShakthiSAT Bahamas, part of a global mission that brings girls together in aerospace, coding and robotics. She travelled with our senior student leaders to COY17 in Egypt in 2022, and has led scholars and community partners in environmental work with the Caribbean Youth Environment Network, the Fox Hill Charitable Organization and SEEDlings’ Place.
