Aviation programme marks International Civil Aviation Day

Our aviation scholars marked International Civil Aviation Day with an Aerospace, Aviation, STEM & Climate Change Awareness Ceremony, and a record-setting young pilot.

Aviation scholars learn how an airport works, from the simulator to the tower.

International Civil Aviation Day falls on 7 December each year. Akhepran celebrated early, on the Sunday before, with a ceremony that brought together aviation, science and climate awareness.

Our guest was Captain Lee Giat, a 24-year-old pilot who had made a historic landing in The Bahamas during a mission to fly solo to seven countries. Speakers included the Minister of Education, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, and our student aviation class, supported by their instructor, Corporal Desiree Bodie.

The programme introduces future pilots and aviation professionals to many parts of the industry. Scholars practise on flight simulators and visit working aviation facilities.
